With equal attention to theory and practice, the curriculum integrates language, specialized knowledge, and professional competencies. English and Chinese being the common foundation, students are exposed to a variety of academic fields to lay a solid professional background such as science & technology, trade-economics, humanities, law & politics, journalism, entertainment & show business, and information science. International exchange and multi-cultural understanding are encouraged to promote students’ global perspectives. Students may undertake overseas study trips and seek practical training opportunities in a variety of professions to obtain practical experience and sharpen translation and interpretation skills.
Faculty
Besides professional experience, all faculties have a Ph.D. degree with an academic background in translation, interpretation, comparative linguistics, comparative literature, linguistics, or English education.

Graduates’ career options include overseas
representative, business receptionist, international marketing specialist,
customs officer, and English secretary. They may render professional services
to TV stations, international conferences and negotiations, international
brokerage, trading companies, and law firms. Museums, tourism, and national
parks also need their service as guides or translators. Their professional
training and competencies are a competitive edge in civil service exams that
emphasize language facility, such as the foreign corps and international
journalist service.
