Goals
In order to fulfill the school motto of “Sincerity, Professionalism, Civility, Teamwork,” the Center in its various programs focuses on:
Life and ethics education to cultivate student character and virtues
Guiding students toward a homeland and cultural identity for the construction of community ideology
Strengthening ability to use language and information for the expansion of life perspective
Promoting an environment fertile in culture and civility for cultivation of a sound personality
In short, the Center aims to execute through general studies programs the Institution’s ideal of: broadening students’ knowledge base, building their healthy character, instilling sense of good virtue and zealous love for the nation, and equipping them with global perspective as well as excellent foreign language ability. In other words, the ultimate goal is to educate our students, turning them into business professionals squarely tooled with the five arts demanded of modern college graduates.
Program features
All general studies courses are classified into two categories: “Common Required curriculum” and “General Studies curriculum”. Each department is obligated to offer general studies courses as required courses, either 12 credits for the two-year program students or 26 credits for those in the four-year programs (including the Extension Education Division).
The Common Required curriculum of the Institute consists of the four domains of Chinese, English, History, and Constitutional Studies. In contrast, the General Studies curriculum with its emphasis on multiple sources of knowledge covers Humanities, Foreign Languages, Natural Science, and Law-Politics.
Emphasis is put on life education and the
building of a campus culture that encourages students to act locally but think
globally, as is required of modern citizens in the global village.
